Filmfare awards

The Filmfare Awards is India's Oscars equivalent. It is considered the most coveted and prestigious awards in the Indian film industry. The award ceremony, held at the Yashraj Studios in suburban Mumbai, was hosted by actors Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan. Hrithik Roshan and Priyanka Chopra were adjudged Best Actor and Best Actress and Jodha Akbar won the best film award.Masters of ceremony and the new flavours of the season, Ranbir Kapoor and Imran Khan, led by veteran host Karan Johar, have taken an exclusive and invited audience through the razzmatazz of the night. It is awesome to see small movies receiving the recognition they deserve this award season, and to see that while most of the awards were for the technical categories, the jury recognized Mumbai Meri Jaan as its best film of 2008. Additional congratulations to Rock On! and Jaane Tu Ya Jaana Na!

“I’ve got a great welcome in Bollywood... and it’s a nice feeling to be nominated for both the Best Debutante and Best Actress for the same movie,” said the Ghajini star Asin Thotumkal.

With the release of Dev D and recognition of these films, 2009 looks to be a great year for independent Indian cinema, and for all quality films in the release queue for the following year!!!

Congratulations Dibakar Banerjee and Nishikant Kamat and your entire teams! And, congratulations to all who were nominated and who won awards this year.
